Chorus And Chorale Opportunities
Chorus is an ensemble open to auditions for 4th and 5th graders at JDE. Chorus is an extra-curricular activity during the fall semester. Auditions for vocal placement will be held during music class for students who would like to participate. Students will be placed into two groups: Chorus I (part 1) and Chorus II (part 2). Chorus I students typically rehearse Mondays and Wednesdays, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. Chorus II students will rehearse Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. Both groups will combine for dress rehearsals together in the 8:45 to 9:10 a.m. time slot closer to concert time. Chorus rehearsals begin in October.
Chorale is a select ensemble open to auditions to 4th and 5th graders. It is similar to Chorus but it is offered in the Spring semeser and is more selective. We still have two groups, called Chorale 1 and Chorale 2 but the literature is more challenging.
If your 4th or 5th grader would like to participate in Chorus or Chorale, they will need to commit to rehearsals twice per week, to memorize music, and to strive for excellence in vocal performance. Realizing how difficult it is to get students to rehearsals during track out, my plan is to audition enough students to have a viable ensemble even when a particular portion of the chorus is tracked out. This serves the music and allows you not to worry about bringing your child into rehearsal during track out times. They will always be welcome to attend rehearsals whenever they are scheduled, but they are not required to do so during track out. Regular rehearsals will be in the music room (#151).
Examples of Literature performed by the Chorus or Chorale:
“Christmas Is Coming” (Traditional Canon)
“Alleluia for Christmas” (Words and Music by Jan Reese)
